The titular hero is played by Orange Is the New Black's Ruby Rose, with the show breaking new ground by featuring the first openly gay superhero who is also played by an openly gay star.
Rose's Batwoman/Kate Kane character is the cousin of Batman/Bruce Wayne, with the show focusing on a Gotham that's minus its Batman — which is where Kane comes in.
