The 89th Academy Awards are finally among us, and all of the nominees are out to celebrate themselves at a televised Hollywood ceremony hosted by Jimmy Kimmel.
The big winner of the night proved to be director Barry Jenkins's Moonlight, which won Best Picture. However, the win came with a historic onstage mishap after presenters Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway accidentally gave the Best Picture award to La La Land. It turns out the wrong card was handed out, with the Best Picture Award eventually and properly handed to Moonlight. Since the awards, PricewaterhouseCoopers has apologized for the horrible mixup.
Among the other big winners of the night, Mahershala Ali won Best Supporting Actor for Moonlight, which also took home Best Screenplay (Adapted). La La Land also proved to be a big winner, with Damien Chazelle winning Best Director, Emma Stone taking Best Actress, and Justin Hurwitz securing Best Original Score for the film while its "City of Stars" won Best Original Song. On top of all that, La La Land also won Best Production Design and Best Cinematography.
As for Manchester by the Sea, it found Casey Affleck winning Best Actor and Best Screenplay (Original). Best Supporting Actress, meanwhile, went to Viola Davis for Fences.
