Last year's Golden Globe Awards were fraught with controversy over its comedy category. The Martian — a sci-fi adventure drama with comedic overtones — was strangely placed in the comedy category, and ended up winning. Now, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association has changed its rules.

According to Entertainment Weekly, dramatic films with comedic elements will no longer be eligible for the Best Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy category. They'll instead be forced to compete in the dramatic category.

The Martian was up against comedic films like The Big ShortJoySpy and TrainwreckJudd Apatow, who produced and directed Trainwreck, was outspoken about the injustice of The Martian winning.

Along with numerous Twitter rants, Apatow spoke out about The Martian win at the Critics' Choice Awards. "I got Matt Damon staring at me right now," Apatow said at the award ceremony. "After that whole 'Golden Globe comedy' thing. We only have one award Matt, that's all we get. I'm like a nerd on the schoolyard and you stole my milk money."

The next Golden Globe Awards will take place on January 8, 2017.
