Gigli

Martin Brest

Of course it's bad, but for the purposes of ironic enjoyment and witty commentary, how good is Gigli? It's an embarrassment of riches, starting with the dialogue and direction from Martin Brest (Scent of a Woman). The most absurd acting ever by lesbian conqueror Ben Affleck in the title role almost makes JLo's freakish smiley-faces seem like appropriate performance choices, even when she delivers a gut-busting monologue on "pussy power" while doing yoga. The "turkey time" line — and yes, it's worth waiting for, in a film-as-car-wreck way — comes at about 1:20 in but don't stop there or you'll miss a silly cameo by a pony-tailed Al Pacino. (Which is funny, but doesn't top Christopher Walken's appearance, which includes some hilariously random dialogue.) The DVD issue is bare bones, which is too bad because Gigli is screaming for a commentary. Or an explanation of any sort. (Columbia/Sony)
