Published Dec 06, 2016Veteran British actor Peter Vaughan has passed away at the age of 93. In North America, Vaughan was perhaps best known for playing Maester Aemon on Game of Thrones.
His agent Sally Long released a statement to the BBC, saying, "This is to confirm that very sadly Peter Vaughan passed away at approximately 10.30 this morning. He died peacefully with his family around him."
In addition to his work on Game of Thrones, Vaughan had been an active actor since the 1950s. He famously acted in the long-running sitcom Porridge, where he played the character Harry Grout. He also acted in Straw Dogs, Citizen Smith and The Remains of the Day, among many others.
Vaughan had appeared on Game of Thrones for five years.
