Gal Gadot on the "Imagine" Celebrity Singalong: "It Wasn't the Right Timing, and It Wasn't the Right Thing"

"All pure intentions, but sometimes you don't hit the bullseye, right?"

This March will mark two years since Gal Gadot and a host of celebrities tried to heal the world in the early stages of a global pandemic by singing John Lennon's "Imagine," and with all that time to reflect, the Wonder Woman star now admits the celebrity singalong was perhaps in poor taste.

Gadot discussed the video and ensuing criticism in conversation with InStyle, recalling to the publication, "I was calling Kristen [Wiig] and I was like, 'Listen, I want to do this thing.' The pandemic was in Europe and Israel before it came here [to the US] in the same way. I was seeing where everything was headed."

Now, in retrospect, Gadot calls her idea "premature," explaining, "It wasn't the right timing, and it wasn't the right thing. It was in poor taste. All pure intentions, but sometimes you don't hit the bullseye, right? I felt like I wanted to take the air out of it, so that [event] was a delightful opportunity to do that."

With over 10 million plays, the clip of Gadot and her famous friends is still available to subject yourself to via her Instagram account. However, if you're in need of a real pandemic pick-me-up, we'd recommend the Zack Fox "Imagine" singalong instead.

After starring in 2020's Wonder Woman 1984, Gadot's 2021 included appearances in Zack Snyder's Justice League and Red Notice.
