After several years of rumours about its return, a Frasier reboot starring Kelsey Grammer has been confirmed.
Grammer will reprise his role as the Seattle psychiatrist-turned-radio host in a reboot of the long-running comedy, set to arrive through forthcoming streaming service Paramount Plus (formerly CBS All Access). The show's reboot was announced today as part of Paramount+/ViacomCBS's streaming event.
Deadline reports that Frasier's revival comes from writers Chris Harris (How I Met Your Mother) and Joe Cristalli (Life In Pieces), who will serve as executive producers with Grammer.
"Having spent over 20 years of my creative life on the Paramount lot, both producing shows and performing in several, I'd like to congratulate Paramount Plus on its entry into the streaming world," said Grammer in a statement. "I gleefully anticipate sharing the next chapter in the continuing journey of Dr. Frasier Crane."
Rumblings of a potential Frasier reboot were reported in 2018, as Grammer met with writers to hammer out concepts for the new series, then said to be in an "exploratory" phase.
Created by David Angell, Peter Casey and David Lee, Frasier ran for for 11 seasons between 1993 and 2004, capturing 37 Emmy Awards in the process. The original series will also land on Paramount+ alongside the revival.
Deadline adds that while Paramount+ didn't reveal any other talent slated to appear in the reboot, Hyde Pierce — who played Frasier's brother Niles — has been approached about reprising his role.
