Like it or not, David Bowie is getting the film treatment with the upcoming Stardust. And as the movie edges closer to release, we now finally have a proper clip from the Gabriel Range-directed project.
Starring Johnny Flynn as Bowie, Stardust was slated to premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival this week, but with the that event now postponed, the film is getting an online premiere today.
A Stardust micro-site is set to premiere the film following an online event at 4 p.m. ET via Zoom. Th event will feature both Range and Flynn, along with cast members Marc Maron and Jena Malone, and it will be followed by a screening of the film.
But since the online screening is only available to distribution executives and certain press people, we can only offer the next best thing, which is a clip from Stardust, courtesy of Variety.
As previously reported, Stardust is set in 1971 and follows a 24-year-old Bowie as he heads out on his first tour in America with the struggling publicist Ron Oberman (Marc Maron). Jena Malone stars as Bowie's wife Angie.
As you'll see in the clip, we see Flynn playing Bowie as he discusses the tour and his album The Man Who Sold the World with Maron as Oberman.
Speaking of the film, Range offered the following statement:
I set out to make a film about what makes someone become an artist; what actually drives them to make their art. That someone is David Bowie, a man we're used to thinking about as the star he became, or as one of his alter egos: Ziggy Stardust; Aladdin Zane; The Thin White Duke. Someone I only ever saw at a great distance, behind a mask; a godlike, alien presence. Even in his perfectly choreographed death, he didn't seem like a regular human being.
So far, it's unclear when Stardust will be available for all of us to see, but for now, you can an idea what to expect with the clip below.
