Elijah Wood Opens Up About Hollywood's Pedophilia Problem

Unequal pay, lack of decent roles for minorities, rampant sexism — these Hollywood issues have gotten a great deal of press in recent years. However, according to former child actor Elijah Wood, there's yet another major problem in the movie business. In a new interview, Wood suggested that pedophilia runs rampant in Hollywood.

Speaking with the Sunday Times, Wood said he escaped childhood unscathed, namely thanks to his mother — who forbid him from attending Hollywood parties as a child.

That said, Wood added that his peers were regularly "preyed upon," adding, "Clearly something major was going on in Hollywood. It was all organised. There are a lot of vipers in this industry – people who only have their own interests in mind."

Wood went on to compare Hollywood's big figures to the UK's Jimmy Savile, a beloved UK television host who allegedly abused up to 1,000 children. "Jesus, it must have been devastating," Wood said of Savile's abuses.

"There is darkness in the underbelly," Wood added of Hollywood's secret child abuse. "If you can imagine it, it's probably happened."

Last year, Amy Berg released the documentary An Open Secret which explored allegations of child abuse in the film industry. According to activist group Bizparentz, there are currently around 100 child abusers working in the film industry.
