Dolly Parton and Netflix have joined forces for a new series that will bring the country icon's classic songs to the small screen.

Each instalment of the eight-episode scripted anthology will be devoted to a different one of Parton's songs.

It follows a narrative style similar to that of NBC's previously aired films Coat of Many Colors and Coat of Many Colors: Circle of Love, which each featured stories based on singular Parton songs.

The Netflix series will be produced by Warner Bros. Television, and NBC producer Sam Haskell is also rumoured to be involved with the new project.

"As a songwriter, I have always enjoyed telling stories through my music," Parton said in a statement. "I am thrilled to be bringing some of my favorite songs to life with Netflix. We hope our show will inspire and entertain families and folks of all generations, and I want to thank the good folks at Netflix and Warner Bros. TV for their incredible support."

The upcoming series has yet to be titled or given an official release date, but stay tuned for further details.

There's also no word yet if Adele will make a cameo as a young Dolly.
