The Dog from 'The Artist' Has Passed Away

Oscar-winning 2011 flick The Artist was arguably overrated thanks to its gimmick of being a silent, black-and-white film, but it did boast a pretty decent cast. Among them was Uggie, likely the most famous Jack Russell terrier since Wishbone. Sadly, Uggie's career has come to an end as the little pup has passed away.

Uggie's owner Omar von Muller confirmed the news on his Facebook. "We regret to inform to all our friends, family and Uggie's fans that our beloved boy has passed away," von Muller wrote.

"We were not planning on posting anything until we healed a little more but unfortunately somebody leaked it to TMZ and they will be announcing it," von Muller added. "In short, Uggie had a cancerous tumor in the prostate and is now in a better place not feeling pain. Thank you for your support, I will not be reading any comments for a while as it is too painful at the moment."

Adding further drama to the situation, von Muller took issue with TMZ's assertion that Sarah Clifford trained Uggie. "CLARIFICATION….. Sarah had NOTHING, ZERO to do with Uggie's training at anytime," von Muller wrote. "Really amazes me how people can lie to get some credit!"

Prior to The Artist, Uggie's credits included Wassup RockersMr. Fix It and Water for Elephants.

R.I.P. Uggie. All dogs go to heaven.
