Disney Changes Italian 'Moana' Title to Avoid Confusion with Porn Star

Disney's forthcoming animated flick Moana is likely set to be another hit, but it has had some roadblocks along the way. Some Moana Halloween costumes were deemed racist and taken off the market. Now, marketers have been forced to change the film's name in Italy in order to avoid confusion with one of the country's most famous porn stars.

Moana Pozzi, often known simply as Moana, was one of Italy's most famous porn stars of all time. In addition to her major film career, she was also a model, writer, TV personality and political activist. In 1992, the formed the Love Party and ran for mayor of Rome. She passed away in 1994 at the age of 33.

While Disney has not explicitly confirmed the reasoning, the company has decided to release Moana in Italy with the name Oceania instead.

A Disney rep told The Hollywood Reporter, "the studio frequently changes titles in foreign territories for a wide variety of reasons." Still, unnamed sources have suggested that Pozzi played a big role in the film changing its name.

The non-pornographic Moana is set to open on November 23.
