Director Alex Gibney Announces First Non-Documentary Project

BY Josiah HughesPublished Mar 31, 2016

Documentarian Alex Gibney has already amassed a massive, critically acclaimed filmography with works like The Armstrong Lie and last year's Going Clear: Scientology and the Prison of Belief, among many others. Up next, however, he'll move past the docs with his first narrative feature.

The film is called The Action, and follows the true story of eight anti-war activists who leaked FBI documents in 1971. The leaks exposed J. Edgar Hoover's campaign to spy on Vietnam War protestors.

The film is based on Betty Medsger's book The Burglary: The Discovery Of J. Edgar Hoover's Secret FBI, and was adapted for the screen by Scott Z. Burns (Contagion).

Burns will also produce alongside Anonymous Content's Michael Sugar, Ashley Zalta and Participant Media. The film is being made for Lionsgate.

Thanks to Variety for the tip.
