Dennis Quaid has met his furry match in a black cat from Lynchburg, VA. During lockdown, the actor learned through local 10 News about Lynchburg Humane Society's shelter cat who shares his name — so naturally, he adopted his fluffy counterpart.

That's right — Dennis Quaid the actor will soon bring Dennis Quaid the cat into his family home. The actor and his Pet Show podcast colleague Jimmy Jellinek appeared on 10 News to share his adoption plans.

"I'm out to save all the Dennis Quaids of the world," the actor said in the broadcast.

According to shelter staff, getting the call from Quaid seemed like an elaborate joke at first.

"I was like 'There is no way this is real,' like, someone is pranking us," Lynchburg Humane Society manager Danielle Ulmer told reporters.

"We reached out to the shelter. It took a while for them to actually believe us — once we got past the 'No, we're not trolls or crazy people,'" Jellinek added.

After the success of kitty Dennis's adoption story, the shelter has taken to naming incoming rescues after other famous celebrities. At the time of reporting, LHS also has a listing for a two-year-old black cat named Jenny from the Block and a one-year-old tabby named after Serena Williams.
