Daniel Day-Lewis Loved Adam Sandler in 'Uncut Gems' So Much That He Called Him to Congratulate Him for It

Well they certainly share a sense of fashion

Adam Sandler has been gaining all kinds of accolades for his performance in the Safdie brothers's Uncut Gems. While we won't know if he wins an Oscar for the film until next year, he has earned the respect of another cinematic institution: Daniel Day-Lewis.

The Sand-man made an appearance on The Bill Simmons Podcast alongside his co-star (and NBA player) Kevin Garnett. In the interview, Sandler said he was buying basketball shorts and sneakers at Macy's (which he claimed were for a real basketball game, but knowing Sandler they could have been for a red carpet) when he got an unexpected phone call.

"I'm getting my sneakers and then I look down at my phone and it's Daniel Day-Lewis," he said.

On the call, Day-Lewis started praising Sandler for his performance in Uncut Gems, as well as the film in general.

"He starts talking about grabbing the seat in front of him. 'I couldn't let go of the seat in front of me,' and just saying how much he dug the movie, he dug [Kevin Garnett], he dug the guys. But it was the best call ever."

While the call was unexpected, it wasn't completely out of the ordinary. Sandler and Day-Lewis are actually friends, and Sandler affectionately refers to him as Danny.
