Published Jul 16, 2015In the world of home movie viewing, physical media has taken a backseat to on-demand services and digital downloads. Keeping the DVD and Blu-ray dream alive, however, is the constantly growing Criterion Collection, who always manage to house their releases in fancy packaging and loving liner notes. They've just announced their next batch of releases, and there's plenty to dig into.
Sophia Loren and Marcello Mastroianni's A Special Day, Masaki Kobayashi's Kwaidan and David Lynch's Mulholland Dr. are all on board for release this October. As could be expected, the sets include expansive liner notes and bonus features. Gus Van Sant's My Own Private Idaho will be released on Blu-ray for the first time following its previous DVD edition.
Further, cult horror fans will be happy to know that David Cronenberg's The Brood is also on board for a Criterion release in October. That said, it won't be available in Canada so you'll have to sneak one across the border if you want to dig into those special features.
All of Criterion's upcoming releases are available to pre-order here.
