'Creed' Sequel Planned for 2017 Release

BY Josiah HughesPublished Jan 11, 2016

One of 2015's biggest film surprises, Creed was way, way better than it had any right to be. Looking to capitalize on the film, a sequel is already in the works.

Michael B. Jordan and Sylvester Stallone will both return to the fold as Adonis Creed and Rocky Balboa respectively. We won't have to wait too long, either, as Variety reports that MGM is reportedly eyeing a November, 2017 release date for the movie.

Due to the quick turn-around time, however, director Ryan Coogler might have to hand it over to someone else. After all, he'll be busy with Marvel's Black Panther.

"I know Ryan is going to be gone for a couple years," Stallone told Variety in a recent cover story. "There's a diminishing time acceptance of a sequel."

Stallone added that the film might see the return of Carl Weathers as Apollo Creed. "Ryan has some ideas of going forward and backward and actually seeing Rocky and Apollo together," he said. "Think of The Godfather 2. That's what he was thinking of, which was kind of ambitious."

Stay tuned for more information about the forthcoming Creed sequel as it becomes available.
