Canadian Screen Awards Announces 2023 Nominations, Led by 'Brother,' 'The Porter' and 'Sort Of'

Other contenders include 'Riceboy Sleeps,' 'Pretty Hard Cases' and David Cronenberg's 'Crimes of the Future'

Having already announced Samantha Bee as the host and special award recipients including Simu Liu, Ryan Reynolds and Catherine O'Hara, the Canadian Screen Awards have announced the 2023 nominees.

Clement Virgo's Brother leads all film nominations with 14, including Best Motion Picture, Direction, Performance in a Leading Role and more. Stéphane Lafleur's Viking is close behind with 13, and David Cronenberg's Crimes of the Future has 11. The Best Motion Picture category also features Babysitter, Falcon Lake, Riceboy Sleeps and Summer with Hope.

On the television side of things, The Porter is way out in front with 19 nominations, including Best Drama Series and Best Lead Performer. Sort Of and Detention Adventure each earned 15 nods, while Pretty Hard Cases scored 11.

Also up for Best Drama Series are Departure, Moonshine, Skymed and Transplant. Best Comedy Series contenders include Astrid & Lilly Save the World, Children Ruin Everything, Fakes, Letterkenny and Sort Of.

As for digital media, Revenge of the Black Best Friend got nine nominations, followed by seven for Avocado Toast the Series and four for Tokens.
