Actor Cameron Boyce died over the weekend at the young age of 20, and his family has now confirmed epilepsy was indeed a factor in the Disney star's death.

In a statement to People, Boyce's family said his "tragic passing was due to a seizure as a result of an ongoing medical condition, and that condition was epilepsy."

They added, "We are still trying to navigate our way through this extremely heart-wrenching time, and continue to ask for privacy so that the family and all who knew and loved him can grieve his loss and make arrangements for his funeral — which in and of itself, is agonizing."

The family statement follows news yesterday (July 9) that the Los Angeles County coroner's office had completed an autopsy but had delayed releasing an official cause of death as it awaits additional test results.

As previously reported, Boyce died in his sleep following a seizure on Saturday (July 6).

The actor was known for starring in such Disney Channel shows A Jessie and the TV movie series about the children of Disney villains, Descendants. He also played the son of Adam Sandler's character in the Grown Ups films.
