Published May 06, 2016This year, Calgary's Fairy Tales Film Festival is turning 18. The long-running queer film fest has assembled another excellent collection of LGBT films for their event, which runs from May 20 to 28.
With the tag line "Every Life Has a Story," this year's fest offers a diverse lineup across its eight-day run. Films screening include Portrait of a Serial Monogamist, Holding the Man, Out to Win, Act of Love, In the Turn, Death in Buenos Aires, Three to Infinity: Beyond Two Genders, Toy, Margarita with a Straw, The Chambermaid, Peter de Rome: Grandfather of Gay Porn, The Girl King and Before the Last Curtain Falls.
"For 2016 we took a serious look at complex stories of queer women all over the globe, non-binary identities and the athlete in all of us," programmer Gene Flessati said in a press release. "Queer cinema is becoming an increasingly powerful presence across the globe and it has been exciting to have the privilege to screen films that we would not imagine being produced only a few years ago, and certainly never in our wildest dreams a generation ago."
In addition to the standard film screenings, the fest will offer opening and closing galas, multiple shorts programs, a youth program, a sing-along screening of Grease and a special retro gala screening of The Birdcage.
