Ashton Kutcher and Natalie Portman played a pair of fuck buddies in Ivan Reitman's entirely forgettable 2011 film No Strings Attached, but at the end of the day, only one of the two was truly fucked. In a new interview, Portman says she was paid one-third of what Kutcher was to make the movie.
Speaking with Marie Claire UK, Portman admitted that Kutcher was paid "three times as much" as her to appear in the by-the-numbers rom-com.
"I knew and I went along with it because there's this thing with 'quotes' in Hollywood," she said. "His [quote] was three times higher than mine, so they said he should get three times more. I wasn't as pissed as I should have been. I mean, we get paid a lot, so it's hard to complain, but the disparity is crazy.
"Compared to men, in most professions, women make 80 cents to the dollar. In Hollywood, we are making 30 cents to the dollar."
Hollywood's antiquated sexism has been exposed time and time again. Recently, Shameless star Emmy Rossum halted production on the show when she demanded to be paid the same as her male co-star William H. Macy. Emma Stone also revealed that she's had her improvised lines stolen and given to men.
