David Robert Mitchell's 2014 spook-fest It Follows is one of indie horror's most enduring recent successes, raking in impressive box office numbers and freaking out a whole bunch of people with its stylish, tension-filled storytelling and chilling Disasterpeace score (not to mention landing on Exclaim!'s list of the best films of the 2010s).
Nearly 10 years later, Mitchell and Neon film studio have announced a sequel, as reported by Variety — They Follow will reunite Mitchell with It Follows star Maika Monroe, with principal photography starting in 2024.
Mitchell is set to return as both writer and director for the sequel, while Monroe will reprise her lead role as Jay Height. No other details are currently available, but you can go ahead and assume we'll get more ghostly STIs and decade-nonspecific wardrobes.
In 2018, Mitchell wrote, produced and directed Under the Silver Lake, which starred Andrew Garfield and Riley Keough. Monroe recently wrapped production on Oz Perkins's Longlegs, which co-stars Nicolas Cage and is set for release next year.
