This November will mark 90 years of music-making at Abbey Road Studios, and the famed recording space will be treated to a new feature-length documentary to mark the occasion.
If These Walls Could Sing will bring the "untold" story of the legendary studio to the screen, and is directed by Mary McCartney — daughter of Linda and Paul McCartney. The project will be produced by John Battsek's Ventureland in partnership with the Universal Music Group-backed Mercury Studios.
"Some of my earliest memories as a young child come from time spent at Abbey Road," said Mary McCartney in a statement. "I've long wanted to tell the story of this historic place and I couldn't be collaborating with a better team than John and Mercury Studios to make this creative ambition a reality."
Mercury Studios CEO Alice Webb, who is also executive producing, added: "Mercury Studios could not be partnering with a more visionary and passionate team than Mary McCartney and John Battsek to tell Abbey Road Studios' incredible story on film for the first time. We are passionate about showcasing work of pioneering film makers of the highest quality — which is why we are delighted Mary is bringing her creative vision to this project."
A concrete release date for If These Walls Could Sing was not revealed, though it is expected to arrive in time for Abbey Road's 90th anniversary celebrations in November.
Opened as EMI Recording Studios by the Gramaphone Company in 1931, the recording studio was renamed in 1970 after the Beatles' revered 11th studio album. The iconic group recorded 190 of their 210 songs in the space.
