Last month, Alex Trebek vowed to return to Jeopardy! for a 36th season following his diagnosis with stage 4 pancreatic cancer. Now, the iconic host has shared another update on his condition.

Speaking with People magazine, Trebek revealed that doctors have told him he's in "near remission" and responding very well to chemotherapy treatment.

"It's kind of mind-boggling," Trebek told the magazine. "The doctors said they hadn't seen this kind of positive result in their memory... some of the tumours have already shrunk by more than 50 percent."

Trebek told People that he'll still have to go through several more rounds of chemotherapy, crediting support from friends and fans around the globe for his improving condition.

"I've got a couple million people out there who have expressed their good thoughts, their positive energy directed towards me and their prayers," he told People. "I told the doctors, this has to be more than just the chemo, and they agreed it could very well be an important part of this."

He added, "I've got a lot of love out there headed in my direction and a lot of prayer, and I will never ever minimize the value of that."

Jeopardy! wrapped its 35th season of taping last month.
