Retreating from his goofier side in Hubie HalloweenAdam Sandler has signed on to star in a new sci-fi drama for Netflix. His upcoming film will be an adaptation of Jaroslav Kalfar's 2017 novel, The Spaceman of Bohemia, where he'll play — you guessed it — a spaceman.

As Deadline reports, the story will follow an astronaut who "finds his earthly life falling to pieces" as he is sent "to the edge of the galaxy to collect mysterious ancient dust." Sandler will contend with a mysterious voice from a "creature from the beginning of time" who has been hiding on his ship.

The project will find Channing Tatum on the production team, with HBO's Emmy-winning Chernobyl showrunner Johan Renck set to direct and executive produce. The script is being adapted by Colby Day.

"As we prepare for our voyage to Chopra, I couldn't be more pleased to have found the perfect partner in Adam," Renck said in a statement. "And now, with the support of the brilliant Netflix family, I am profoundly excited to set off on our impossible journey."

Prior to inking the deal, Sandler signed onto two other forthcoming film projects, Netflix's Kyle Lowry-co-starring basketball movie, Hustle, and the fourth instalment of the animated film franchise, Hotel Transylvania.
