Adam McKay Thinks People Who Hated 'Don't Look Up' Don't Care Enough About Climate Change

"If you don't have at least a small ember of anxiety about the climate collapsing (or the US teetering) I'm not sure 'Don't Look Up' makes any sense"

Star-studded climate change satire Don't Look Up is the "love it or hate it" hit of the holidays, as it continues to inspire strong reactions across the board. Now, director Adam McKay has some slightly condescending words for people who don't like the film.

The director tweeted that he is "loving all the heated debate about our movie." He then went on to say, "But if you don't have at least a small ember of anxiety about the climate collapsing (or the US teetering) I'm not sure Don't Look Up makes any sense. It's like a robot viewing a love story."

Despite what McKay seems to be implying here, it's entirely possible to agree with the film's message about climate change (and its points about partisan politics, apathy, celebrity, the media's clickbait economy, etc.) and also find the whole thing a bit clunky and about 45 minutes longer than it needed to be.

But hey, Jonah Hill was pretty funny! And regardless of whether you loved Don't Look Up or hated it — or thought it was just a bit disappointing — at least it's getting people talking about climate change, which is something.
