"Weird Al" Yankovic

Third Man Record Booth Session (video)

Though the Third Man Records' Voice-O-Graph booth has been used by the likes of Jack White and Neil Young, the antique recording facility was recently visited by the greatest musical mirthmaker of them all: "Weird Al" Yankovic. We're pretty sure the label won't be pressing the recent a cappella performance for the general public, but a new video is letting us see all the behind-the-scenes action.

The visit to Nashville led Yankovic and backup pals Steve Jay, Jon "Bermuda" Schwartz and Jim "Kimo" West into the booth, where they performed an insanely complicated medley that threaded together a whole lot of phonetic nonsense. In addition to some oddly gleeful panting and highly evocative vocal ticks (i.e., "boom boom, akalakalaka boom"), the foursome deliver the haunted hook to Disney's Haunted Mansion theme "Grim Grinning Ghosts" and salute "Frère Jacques," as well as dive into the "crimping" vocal stylings of The Mighty Boosh

Down below, you'll find a video that shows the recording session in real time, and the band's reaction to their performance when listening back to the insta-vinyl release.
