That Chance the Rapper and Childish Gambino Project Might Actually Be on the Way

BY Sarah MurphyPublished Jan 3, 2017

Back in 2013, Chance the Rapper hopped on Childish Gambino's Because the Internet cut "The Worst Guys," before the pair hinted that a full-blown collaborative EP was in the works.

That joint EP never did arrive, and in the meantime, both artists have made huge artistic leaps with last year's Coloring Book and Awaken, My Love! — but intrigued fans shouldn't give up hope on a Chance/Gambino offering just yet.

Chance the Rapper confirmed that the tape existed during a Reddit AMA last spring, and just yesterday (Janaury 2), he shared a photo of himself and Childish Gambino mastermind Donald Glover, reigniting rumours of an upcoming release from the duo.

Chance merely captioned the pic with "Hawaii then LA, back to work," adding the hashtag #roscoeswetsuit.

As FACT points out, there has been speculation over what the phrase "Roscoe's Wetsuit" means since 2013's Because the Internet drop, with one fan coming to the conclusion that combining the rappers' birth names into "Donald Bennet" and entering it into the Wu-Tang Name Generator (an homage to how Glover originally came up with his rap alter-ego) produces "Sixty Second the Baptist." That's the same fake name the generator comes up with when you enter "Roscoe's Wetsuit."

It seems a little convoluted, but if it means a Chance the Rapper and Childish Gambino mixtape is finally about to see the light of day, we're willing to believe any theory, even just a little.
