Pete Davidson has found himself in hot water, and this time, it's not over a joke about his former fiancée Ariana Grande. Rather, he's facing backlash over a joke he made about Dan Crenshaw during the latest "Weekend Update" segment from Saturday Night Live.
In the segment, Davidson was taking jabs at various candidates running for office in the midterm elections. He even ended the bit by taking shots at his own appearance.
But many viewers seemed to be offended by his comments about congressional candidate Crenshaw, a former Navy SEAL who lost an eye while serving in Afghanistan.
A photo of Crenshaw was shown, then Davidson said: "You may be surprised to hear he's a congressional candidate in Texas and not a hitman in a porno movie. I'm sorry, I know he lost his eye in war, or whatever. Whatever."
A number of conservative media folk responded on Twitter, shaming the joke.
Crenshaw himself tweeted about the joke, saying that veterans' injuries shouldn't be the "punchlines for bad jokes."
Davidson's fellow SNL star Kenan Thompson has since spoken out about the controversial joke. He appeared on Today this morning, and said that the joke "definitely missed the mark."
"I personally would never necessarily go there, but it's tough when you're fishing for jokes," he added, before describing Davidson as "a humble dude and has got a big heart and I don't think he goes out to offend people."
The backlash against Davidson isn't the only criticism NBC is facing after the weekend. Many have spoken out against a racist midterm election ad approved by Donald Trump that aired on NBC during Sunday Night Football.
Unsurprisingly, that criticism is coming from a very different Twitter demographic than those up in arms over Davidson's joke.
NBC has since stopped airing the ad, following in the footsteps of CNN. Even Fox News has removed the commercial from its network.
