Norm MacDonald Is Writing a Memoir

BY Josiah HughesPublished Dec 10, 2015

Celebrated Canadian comedian (and arguably the best "Weekend Update" host SNL has ever had) Norm MacDonald has a way with storytelling. For example, his Twitter followers are occasionally treated to long, winding stories about his showbiz experiences. Now, his entire life story will be told in a new memoir.

As Deadline reports, MacDonald is currently writing a autobiographical book for Random House imprint Spiegel & Grau.

Called Based on a True Story, the book will follow MacDonald's life from his early days in Quebec City and Ottawa through his storied entertainment career.

In a statement, MacDonald said, "If you like a good old-fashioned tell-all bombshell about sex, drugs, and rock'n'roll, and if you like an unflinching account of how the dirty little business of big-time comedy works, then you will love Based On A True Story.... OK, one time I do flinch. But only once. The rest of time, unflinching. Also, there will be no mention of rock'n'roll. I was lying."

Based on a True Story will be released at some point in 2016.
