The Bicycles Go On Hiatus, Possibly Split
3/12/2009 By Brock Thiessen

By the looks of things, Toronto’s super-chirpy popsters the Bicycles are throwing in the towel.

This week, the band announced they are taking the dreaded “extended hiatus,” telling fans on their MySpace blog that this week’s show in Toronto will likely be their last.

The post reads: “Little fyi: this Friday's CMW show at the Horseshoe will be the last Bicycles show for a loooong time... and... maybe... forever (or maybe not forever, you never know).

“So, if you really like us and live in toronto — come on out and appreciate us before we're gone!”

The bad news comes after a very busy couple of months for the Bicycles, who in the tail end of last year released their latest LP, Oh No, It’s Love, and embarked on quite the extensive Canadian tour.

According to a report by CBC Radio 3, the members of the Bicycles will keep up their musical careers in a variety of different projects. Their label Fuzzy Logic said drummer Dana Snell will continue on with Gentleman Reg, guitarist/keyboardist Andrew Scott will join Sebastien Grainger’s live band and Andrew Lloyd will hit the road with Born Ruffians.

That final Bicycles show takes place Friday (March 13) at the Toronto’s Horseshoe Tavern as part of Canadian Music Week. Also on the bill are the Handsome Furs, Human Highway, Hot Panda and Dinosaur Bones.
