Jon Spencer Blues Explosion Gear Up for Reissue Series

For all intents and purposes, the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion are a thing of the past. The group haven't released an album since 2004, and since then have toured only sporadically (most recently playing a one-off in NYC this summer). And because it looks as if we won't be receiving any new Blues Explosion albums any time soon (if ever), the timing is perfect for some retrospective reissues of the band's back catalogue.

As well as a best-of compilation, mixed-media label Shout! Factory will be rereleasing the group's seven studio albums starting in the spring. These expanded reissues will be jam-packed with outtakes and non-album singles.

Still, in a new interview with Billboard, front-man Jon Spencer promises that the reissues won't be too excessive, saying, "We're trying to keep them to single discs. There will be B-sides from singles in Europe, stuff like that. Hopefully it will be an easy way for someone to tie things up and put them all in one place."

Meanwhile, Spencer is busy with his new band, Heavy Trash, as well as a new collaboration with his wife Christina Martinez and Dutch electro diva Solex.

As for the Blues Explosion, Spencer says that the group are "very much in deep hiatus." Nevertheless, the singer hints that a reunion isn't out of the question, saying, "We've thought about it, talked about it, just haven't done it."

So far, no release dates or tracklistings have been announced for the Blues Explosion reissues.
