D-Sisive’s “Nobody with a Notepad” Takes SOCAN’s Fourth Annual ECHO Songwriting Prize
10/6/2009 By Travis Caine

The Society of Composers, Authors and Music Publishers of Canada (SOCAN) has announced that Toronto hip-hop jester D-Sisive (aka Derek Christoff) and partner-in-crime Robert Baker are the winners of this year's ECHO Songwriting Prize for their track "Nobody with a Notepad."

After thousands of votes were submitted, D-Sisive emerged victorious over Joel Plaskett's "Through and Through and Through," Land Of Talk's "Some Are Lakes," Sebastien Grainger's "Love Can Be So Mean" and Timber Timbre's "Lay Down in the Tall Grass," meaning they've been awarded a nice $5,000 cheque and some hefty bragging rights.

"This is definitely a different kind of SOCAN cheque than what I'm used to," said Christoff in a a statement. "Getting this award is going to make my next SOCAN cheque depressing."

He went on to give a special thanks and recognition to Baker, who produced the track, and whom D-Sisive credits by saying, “If it wasn't for that monster beat, the international smash hit 'Nobody with a Notepad' wouldn't exist.”

The Francophone counterpart of the award, Prix de la chanson ECHO, has been awarded to Bernard Adamus for his song "La question a 100 piasses."

D-Sisive's next album, Jonestown, will be released November 18 via Urbnet Records.
