New Order’s Peter Hook to Drop Hacienda Acid House Classics
8/31/2009 By Brock Thiessen

When New Order aren’t busy arguing like some fat version of Blur and Oasis, now-former bassist Peter Hook is apparently still keeping his hands busy with the DJ thing. Along with lining up new material from his Freebass outfit, ol’ Hooky has handpicked a selection of acid house classics for an upcoming double-disc comp.

Dubbed Hacienda Acid House Classics, the Hook-mixed compilation will feature tracks from the likes of A Guy Called Gerald, Man Ray, Josh Wink and Phuture. There’s even a New Order track, “True Dub,” which previously showed up as the B-side of the “True Faith” single.

As the collection’s title suggests, the comp is in tribute to the Hacienda (aka FAC 51), the legendary Manchester club that’s often considered the birthplace of UK acid house, and was once co-owned by Hook and New Order. According to the press release, Hooky portrays “the definitive sound of acid house and the Hacienda,” as well as collects “many of the biggest acid house moments of this time.”

Hacienda Acid House Classics is due out October 19 in the UK via New State Music and comes with the following tracklisting:

In truth, the first spin of Burning Love's debut full-length didn't yield the anticipated reactions. Expecting something in the same raw, combative vein as their demo/EP, Songs For Burning Lovers, while still wonderfully rough, seemingly lacked its predecessors' overt rabidity and stampeding ...
