Bradford Cox Re-Releases Expanded Atlas Sound Album, Covers Jay Reatard
7/2/2008 By Brock Thiessen

When Atlas Sound released Let the Blind Lead Those Who Can See but Cannot Feel back in February, North Americans got a bit of a raw deal compared to their European counterparts. Over across the pond, the Bradford Cox solo debut came sporting a whole bonus disc of extra tracks when released via 4AD, while we were left holding a single 14-track disc.

Well, finally Kranky is out to rectify the situation and will be releasing Let the Blind with the additional tracks included, and on double vinyl nonetheless. On July 28, Canadians and Americans alike will now get the chance to physically own the Atlas Sound songs "Another Bedroom," "It Rained," "Stained Glass Swan," "Abandoned Closet," "Spring Break," and "ABC Glasgow" — something that undoubtedly put a few smiles on fans’ faces.

In other Cox vinyl news, Deerhunter will be joining up with Matador signee Jay Reatard on the garage punker’s ongoing seven-inch series. On the fourth instalment due out July 22, the guys will be swapping covers, with Reatard having a go at Deerhunter’s "Fluorescent Grey" and Deerhunter offering up a version of Reatard’s "Oh It's Such a Shame."

Also, another seven-inch single featuring Cox will be out August 5 via with K Records. On this one, Atlas Sound will provide the track "Atlas Shrugged" on the A-side and Selector Dub Narcotic will fill the B-side with a rendition of the same track, which they’re renaming "Shrug-a-Dub-Dub.”

Along with all these forthcoming releases, Cox will be hitting the road both as Atlas Sound and with Deerhunter. Before we get to those Canadian-friendly dates, here is the vinyl tracklisting to Let the Blind.

"I pretty much had a meltdown," Owen Pallett admits, laughing ruefully. "This record took a lot out of me." The 30-year-old violin genius didn't name his third full-length album Heartland for nothing. It's all blood, guts, emotion, and his own money that Pallett's poured into the epic, orchestral release, a project that was four years in the making, and according to some anxious and critical fans, long overdue....
