Grey Area/the Copyrights/the Reveling/Luther - Grey Area/the Copyrights/the Reveling/Luther
By Brad SchmaleA cavalcade of melodic punk ties together this four-way split, with the likes of veterans Grey Area and the Copyrights paired with newcomers the Reveling and Luther, with each band contributing two tracks. Grey Area's speedy post-hardcore kicks things off properly with "Lucky" and "Bad Anything," followed by the Reveling and their "blink and you'll miss it," pop-laden "Trust Me," clocking in at just over one minute. The Copyrights supply the record's strongest effort with hook-heavy anthem "The New Frontier" and take a stab at covering Scared of Chaka's "Straight to the Office." Luther, the more lax band of the split, wind things down with closing numbers "Sixty One" and the swaying "The Door is a Penthouse." Black Numbers deserves a pat on the back for pulling off this impressive release with a cool twist.
