The Killers - Live From the Royal Albert Hall
By Ian GormelySay what you want about the Killers, but there's no denying they're a pretty great live band. In music videos and on late night television, Brandon Flowers often comes off as a bit of a self-important ass, which isn't helped by his recent adoption of big shouldered jackets covered in feathers. But the singer's rock star histrionics are well suited to rapturous crowds, like the one the group play to on this new CD/DVD release. It seems like the full breadth of the Killers' Vegas-styled, '80s-inspired rock can't be understood until you've seen a packed house singing and clapping along, something English audiences are always far more willing to do than their North American counterparts. One of the biggest problems with all three of the band's albums has been the dispairty between the hits and the filler. The group's live show works like a greatest hits, reminding you just how awesome "Mr. Brightside" and "When We Were Young" are outside the confines of their respective albums. Along with the Royal Albert Hall gig are bonus performances from the V, Oxegen and Hyde Park festivals, as well as an obligatory behind-the-scenes featurette.
