The Tony Danza Tapdance Extravaganza - Danza IIII: The Alpha ― The Omega
By Denise FalzonSince their 2004 inception, Tennessee's the Tony Danza Tapdance Extravaganza have been more than just an attention-grabbing name. They have continually honed their sound to feature an amalgamation of cores ― deathcore, metalcore and grindcore ― and they have always managed to produce powerful, entertaining releases. Their fourth and final album, Danza IIII: The Alpha ― The Omega, is no exception and with a more mature vibe, Danza end things on a high note. After a number of members over eight years, Danza are down to the dynamic duo of founder/vocalist Jesse Freeland and multi-instrumentalist Josh Travis handling just about everything else. Danza IIII features moments of math-y, searing noise and blistering guitar work ("You Won't"), as well as groovy riffs with straightforward, djent-style rhythms ("The Crossfire," "Paul Bunyan and the Blue Ox"). The title track features guest vocals from Phil Bozeman (Whitechapel) and Alex Erian (ex-Despised Icon, Obey the Brave), making it the most vocally crushing track on the record. However, Danza IIII could have cut a few unnecessary tracks, including the repetitive "Hold the Line" and the six minutes of filler dubbed "Some Things are Better Left Unsaid."
