Macabra - Blood-Nurtured Nature
By Greg PrattThere's a resurgence of old-school death metal worship going on, and then there are bands like Macabra. This is pure American old school death metal that's not inspired by the resurgence, but simply inspired by the greats, right down to the sloppy playing, the barely-par production and the forgettable songs. I mean that in a good way and beyond some amazing parenthetic song titles, like "Consuming the Fleshly Wax (the Rule of Decomposing Eminence)" and "Fragments of Torpor (Necrodepravity through Mortal Disfiguration)," this act have the feel, vibe and stench of the greats down pat, definitely hovering more towards the underrated (Autopsy, maybe Asphyx), although there are hints of the big names here as well: Obituary, Death. Feel the torpor.
