Mike Jones - The Voice
By Neil AcharyaIf your only interest is making music for the club then making rap music is as easy as painting by numbers. Houston's Mike Jones is living proof that remedial rap is rewarding, declaring in the opening lines of his sophomore album, The Voice, that his debut went double platinum, selling over two-million copies. Always the self-promoter, just over 30 seconds in Jones also mentions he has a new album coming out entitled Expect the Unexpected. You see, apparently you are to never know what to expect from the 28-year-old Texan. However, evidence points to the contrary. On The Voice, you get a lot of Mike Jones talking about himself. But all is not lost. "Hate on Me" is a contemplative track in which Jones seems deeply concerned as to why he catches so much flack. His argument being that he has hustled to get where he is and now he enjoys things like rollin' on 22s, which are the fruits of his labour. Featured on the album are T-Pain, Lil Wayne and Devin the Dude. "Swagger Right" and "Boi!" are likely to blow out some speakers over the course of the summer. Oh, and in case you didn't know, the album is made by Mike Jones. If by chance you forget he lets you know about four million times over the course of 16 cuts.
