Kid Cudi - Indicud
By Chris DartSaying a Kid Cudi album is weird is like saying water is wet; it's just kind of a given. His new record, Indicud, is almost certainly the only album to ever feature guest spots from Michael Bolton and Too $hort. It's also a smart, fun, eclectic record full of psychedelic influences and great, massive choruses. "Just What I Am" is a classic Cudi stoner anthem with a strong, molasses-slow, pitched down hook that sticks with you for days. The rock-y "Young Lady," a collaboration with Father John Misty, picks up where Cudi's WZRD project left off. "Afterwards (Bring Your Friends)" is the strangest, and most interesting, track on the album. A nine-minute opus in multiple movements, it features surprisingly club-ready beats and a great deal of Michael Bolton on the hook. Indicud won't work for everyone, but if you're a Cudi fan, this album finds him sounding better than he has in some time.
