Kristin Lindell - Overflowing
By Kerry DooleToronto, ON-based singer-songwriter Kristin Lindell displays a warm vocal style and jazzy delivery on this enjoyable collection of original, melodic, folk-tinged tunes. A few were co-written with the album's producer, Bret Higgins (Great Lake Swimmers). Another Great Lake Swimmers member who contributes on two tracks is fiddler/backing vocalist Miranda Mulholland; she helps make "Linden Tree" a highlight. A notable cast of players and backing singers also include Josh Van Tassell, Joel Schwartz, Robbie Grunwald, and Jadea Kelly. Reference points for Lindell's work would include Norah Jones and Eva Cassidy. Other highlights are the gospel-inflected "Shall We Gather at the River" and the sweet "Hear Me Callin.'" There's an upbeat, optimistic feel to Overflowing and the lyrics reflect Lindell's passion for the environment (she spent over a decade working for eco causes).
