By Vincent PollardDigits is the project of Toronto, ON resident Alt Altman and Lost Dream is his latest EP, consisting of four sumptuous synth pop tracks and one remix. The songs concern themselves with loss and longing, but never regret, always remaining optimistic, never wallowing. Vocally, Altman demonstrates a strong influence from Norwegian singer Erlend Øye, especially prevalent on second track "Rachel Marie." Meanwhile, "Desire" has shades of early '80s British synth pop. The title track is the standout, with its genius vocal pattern, some great synth work and subtle use of handclaps. The closing remix of "Lost Dream" proves that Digits can pick up the pace and move your feet as well as tug on your heartstrings. Digits is a true hidden gem, one that won't remain hidden for long.
