The Slakadeliqs - The Garrison, Toronto ON March 22
By Ian GormelyAnticipation was high for the debut of the Slakadeliqs' latest album, The Other Side of Tomorrow. A mix of rock, jazz and old-school R&B, the project is the brainchild of hip-hop producer Slakah the Beatchild. With the band decked out in matching shirt, tie and cardigans featuring a giant "S" on the left-hand side, Slakah took charge of the quartet for the night. But some terrible sound issues -- particularly feedback -- proved too much for the group, derailing much of the set and ensuring they never really found their groove. To his credit, Slakah worked through the issues, bringing out a steady stream of guests, including Justin Nozuka and Shad. But his voice sounded flat for much of the performance, perhaps due to some monitor issues, leaving many underwhelmed.

NO artist would have been able to overcome the sound issues at Garrison that the Slakadeliqs had to put up with. I was beginning to think the club owner had brought in some high school AV club member to run FOH. Terrible.
