Yo La Tengo Selling Hanukkah Concert Mixes to Benefit Hurricane-damaged Norton Records
By Alex HudsonIndie rock veterans Yo La Tengo have made something of a tradition out of creating mix CDs for their annual Hanukkah concerts, which recently wrapped up at Maxwell's in New Jersey. This year, along with already selling the mixes at the mech table, they are offering the compilations as paid downloads with all proceeds going to Brooklyn's Norton Records, which was hit hard by Hurricane Sandy.

The mixes don't contain new music from Yo La Tengo; rather, the trio picked songs from their record collections. The albums will be available for just 24 hours, from noon (EST) on Friday (December 21) until noon on Saturday (December 22). During that period, pick them up from Yo La Tengo's website for $10, via Three Lobed Recordings.

In a statement, singer-guitarist Ira Kaplan wrote, "But wait! there's more... you will also have the opportunity to pick up two custom mixes from the incredible Norton catalog, one compiled by Miriam Linna and one compiled by Billy Miller."

The Hanukkah shows in Hoboken, NJ, also features mixes by other folks, including one by Shintaro Sakamoto.

Norton Records is in need of help following Hurricane Sandy, as the storm destroyed most of the store's stock at its Brooklyn warehouse. See footage of the destruction below and make a donation here.

Yo La Tengo will release the new LP Fade on January 15. Read about the album and see the band's tour schedule here.
