By Alex HudsonIn addition to playing with Vampire Weekend, Rostam Batmanglij has expanded his resume with side-projects and high-profile collaborations. Now, the prolific multi-instrumentalist has ventured into the world of film scoring, as he has signed up to write the music for The Sound of My Voice.
The film was directed and co-written by Rostam's brother Zal, and it will premiere later this month at the Sundance Film Festival. Over here you can read a synopsis of the movie, which deals with a young couple infiltrating a cult. It's reportedly a "delicately paced and riveting plunge into a psychological maelstrom of uncertainty and danger."
If you happen to be in Utah, there are multiple screenings in the final week of January (see the schedule here). Otherwise, you will have to wait until the film receives a wider release.
That's not all Batmanglij has on his plate right now. He's currently active with his side-project Boys Like Us, and Vampire Weekend just released a six-song iTunes Session EP. The horn-assisted set features tunes from both of VW's albums, along with covers of Bruce Springsteen and the Honeycombs.
