Ty Segall Comes Clean about Fake Andrew Loog Oldham-Penned Bio, Eyes "Evil, Evil Space Rock" LP
By Cam LindsayOn paper, Ty Segall might not be the kind of artist most people expect indie institution Drag City to add to its roster. But today (June 21), the San Franciscan releases his fifth solo album, Goodbye Bread, a more confident and chilled style of his patented garage jams that -- more than anything he's done -- fits in with his new label's eclectic catalogue.

If you've read any advance literature about Goodbye Bread, one of the most impressive things to ogle is his bio, which was penned by legendary Rolling Stones manager/producer Andrew Loog Oldham.

"That's a lie," Segall tells Exclaim! with a laugh. "We didn't think that Drag City would actually publish it. We thought they'd catch on to it. Actually, my buddy Mike Donovan from the Sic Alps wrote that. He told me, 'Dude, they actually put it out as if Andrew wrote it.' And I was like, 'What?' So, whoops! It might have just slipped through the cracks."

Segall isn't worried about Oldham's reaction to the fraudulent bio. "I'm sure he's never going to read the bio, ever," Segall says. "There's no reason for someone like him to know about this."

As for which rock'n'roll legend he'll come up with to write his next album's bio, Segall isn't sure, but he does know that album number six will be "a completely different thought," he says.

"I want to do a total glam Stooges-meets-Hawkwind or Sabbath, something like that. I think that would be super fun. I want to throw people off. I want to make a really heavy record: evil, evil space rock. Put a little Satan in space and you got the sound. Hawkwind's 'Silver Machine' meets Sabbath's 'N.I.B.' meets Hawkwind's 'Master of the Universe.'"
