tUnE-yArDs Reimagines Yoko Ono on New 10-inch
By Alex HudsonThe work of Yoko Ono has frequently been given modern makeovers in recent years, and now pop experimentalist tUnE-yArDs has taken on a couple of Ono tunes on a new 10-inch.

The single is called tUnE-yArDs as Yoko, and it includes two tracks: a cover of "We're All Water" from 1972's Some Time in New York City (which was originally credited to John Lennon and Yoko Ono/Plastic Ono Band with Elephant's Memory & Invisible Strings) and a remix of "Warrior Woman" from 1973's Feeling the Space (which was credited to Yoko Ono/Plastic Ono Band).

The release from tUnE-yArDs came out today (February 12) through Chimera Music. It's available on a limited edition 10-inch with an etching on the B-side, or as a digital download, right here. All proceeds from sales will go to Rockaway Waterfront Alliance to aid those affected by Hurricane Sandy.

Hear a minute-and-a-half-long excerpt of tUnE-yArDs' cover of "We're All Water" below. Merrill Garbus of tUnE-yArDs said in a statement, "Getting familiar with Yoko's vast body of work has been a true education for me. When it came time to choose one of Yoko's songs to cover, and then later one to remix, I had the opportunity to delve into the ground-breaking, punk-before-punk, radical, brave and brilliant work she had done, album after album. More musicians should learn Yoko's history as a songwriter and performer — she's been light years ahead of us for decades."

The remix of "Warrior Woman" is a preview of an upcoming sequel to the 2007 remix album Yes, I'm a Witch, due out later this year.
