Toronto's Luminato Announces Initial 2012 Lineup with Philip Glass, K'naan, Kathleen Edwards, Dan Mangan, Deltron 3030
By Alex HudsonThe multi-disciplinary Toronto festival Luminato is back for another go-around, and the organizers of the event have just announced some of the details of the 2012 edition, which runs from June 8 to 17. As usual, the program boasts some high-profile musical talent, in addition to arts in a variety of mediums.

Among the artists on board for this sixth instalment of Luminato are K'naan, Kathleen Edwards, Dan Mangan, Deltron 3030, Rufus Wainwright, and Loreena McKennitt.

There will also be a pair of performances from minimalist composer Philip Glass: he and Robert Wilson will stage their opera Einstein on the Beach on June 8 at the Sony Centre for the Performing Arts, and then he will close the festival on June 17 by performing his specially commissioned 2012 Overture at a free concert in David Pecaut Square, reports the Toronto Star.

A press release notes that there are "hundreds more" attractions to be announced. In addition to music, these include theatre, dance, literature, food, visual arts, film, magic, and other disciplines.

Tickets for some of the events will go on sale soon over at Luminato's website, but if past years are any indication, many of the concerts will be free to the public.
