Toronto Punk Record Store Hits & Misses to Shut Down
By Josiah HughesLong-running Toronto record store Hits & Misses has developed a solid reputation as a go-to spot for punk and hardcore vinyl. Sadly, however, the staple will soon be closing its doors for good.

Today owner Pete Genest offered up the following explanation for the closure on the store's blog:

Sad news today

The landlord is sending me a breach of contract against me at the store. It is for many reasons, but he has the right to do so. With this breach of contract he can legally give me a 14 day notice to vacate the premises. He did that a few days ago. I have been trying to work something out over the last few days to stay open until the end of October, but he is not buying and wants me out.

In the next 24 hours I will announce the final day the store is open, etc. This all went down today around 2pm this afternoon. So I am still in a bit of shock and totally overwhelmed with what has to get down before closing the store.

I am in debt over my head and with no store front to sell stuff out of, so PLEASE if possible in the next week and half, if you can afford to buy anything from the store, it would be greatly appreciated.

This doesn't mark the only Toronto record store to fall on hard times recently, as Criminal Records shut down in 2011. Sonic Boom was also forced to relocate, though thankfully not due to lack of business.

If you'd like to say goodbye to Hits & Misses and pick up some records before it's too late, the store is located at 799 Queen St. W.

UPDATE: The store's last day open will be September 15. Over on the shop's blog, you can find out its remaining store hours.

UPDATE 2: Andrew W.K. will be spinning records on the store's final day, plus, according to a press release, Hits & Misses plans to reopen in a different location.

I'm sorry but... I went there a couple of times and I could never find anything interesting and I'm a huge punk rock record buyer.
